This webinar explored how to design procurement models that align with decarbonization objectives in healthcare facilities. Key discussions included setting clear decarbonization targets from the outset, adopting prescriptive scoping methods to replace end-of-life assets with energy-efficient solutions, and leveraging financial models like pain-share/gain-share to drive stakeholder alignment.

The session also highlighted best practices for monitoring progress through Measurement and Verification (M&V) and savings tracking, ensuring that decarbonization goals are achieved while maintaining transparency and accountability.

Agenda:

1. Setting the goals – ambitious and achievable energy and emissions targets for both new and existing hospitals.

2. How to incorporate experience, accountability and innovation as key procurement principles.

3. For New Hospitals:

  • A review of National standards from our NRCan Foundations research project. We will focus on the strengths and weaknesses of P3 agreements and how to transition traditional pain/gain share contracts into successful long-term relationships.

4. For Existing Hospitals:

  • Need help on creating performance-based service contracts? Aligning your hospital’s goals with service contract outcomes helps you select the right partners to achieve your hospital’s goals.
  • How to use your Building Condition Assessments and Healthcare Infrastructure Renewal funding to achieve your savings goals and manage the energy transition.
  • A discussion on project financing alternatives, including the use of operational savings and utility incentives, energy performance contracts, life cycle cost analysis and rigorous monitoring and verification.
