Building on the Best: Examining Targets and Best Practices of Highly Energy-Efficient New Hospitals

September 4, 2024 | 8:30 am – 3:00 pm EDT
Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital,
3200 Major MacKenzie Dr W, Vaughan, Ontario
The Giovanni and Anna De Gasperis ◆ Eugene and Eva Kohn Learning Centre

More than one hundred new hospitals open every year across Canada and the United States. Only a small number of them meet current high energy performance standards. The others are spending hundreds of millions of dollars in excessive utility costs and emitting tens of thousands of metric tonnes of unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions. Learning from the best can enable every new hospital to maximize its energy efficiency.

The new 1.2 million square feet Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in the City of Vaughan opened in 2021. Following post-construction operational improvements, it has joined Humber River Hospital at the top of the Greening Health Care leaderboard of the most energy-efficient hospitals in the world.

Join us at the hospital for this in-person event on September 4, 2024 as we go behind the curtains to understand the planning, design, commissioning, and operational practices responsible for world-class standards of energy performance. Learn about the strategies, challenges, and solutions which can help every new hospital meet and exceed these standards, as an essential next step in our common goal of decarbonization of the health care system and net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
